- A synthetic, absorbable, monofilament suture used for general soft tissue approximation and ligation
Uses
- The MONOCRYL suture is primarily used in surgical procedures for:
- General soft tissue approximation and/or ligation:
- Indicated for bringing together or tying off general soft tissues
- Peritoneum closure:
- Used to close the lining of the abdominal cavity
- Subcutaneous tissue and skin closure:
- Frequently employed for closing the layers beneath the skin and the skin itself
Limitations:
- It is explicitly not indicated for use in cardiovascular or neurological tissues, microsurgery, or ophthalmic surgery
Features
- Material:
- Composed of a copolymer of glycolide and epsilon-caprolactone (poliglecaprone 25)
- Absorbability:
- It is a synthetic absorbable suture. It liquefies within 2 to 5 days when used in mucosal regions and is absorbed within 90 to 120 days in total
- Structure:
- Monofilament (single strand) construction
- Color:
- Violet to provide high visibility in tissue
- Size:
- Size 0 suture material
- Needle:
- Features a CT-1 taper point needle, which is 36mm long and a 1/2 circle shape
- Length:
- The suture strand is 27 inches (70 cm) long
- Control Release (CR):
- The needle attachment is a Control Release mechanism, allowing for fast separation of the needle from the suture when necessary
Benefits
- Predictable Absorption:
- The synthetic nature provides predictable strength retention during the critical wound healing period, followed by reliable absorption
- Smooth Passage Through Tissue:
- The monofilament structure and special coating allow for smooth passage through tissue, minimizing trauma
- Reduced Infection Risk:
- As with all sterile, synthetic, single-use sutures, it helps reduce the risk of surgical site infections when proper surgical practice is followed
- Secure Closure:
- Offers reliable knot security and high tensile strength retention during the initial healing phase
- Convenience:
- The Control Release needle attachment streamlines the surgical procedure, facilitating quick tie-offs
